It’s Time for Homework!

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a lovely mid-term break!

Some of the Junior Infants will be delighted to hear that they’ll be starting homework as of this week (some little people have been asking for homework since their very first day of school!!) 🙂

Your child will go home with their new homework folder this week which will contain all homework details that you will need. This week we will start off by revising some of the sounds that we’ve been learning in school over the last few weeks and, in addition to this, we will also have a page of written homework – either English or Maths.

We have started leaning our sounds using the Jolly Phonics programme. This programme uses songs and actions to teach the 42 letter sounds. The letter sounds are organised into 7 groups and are taught in the order shown below:

  • s, a, t, i, p, n
  • c/k, e, h, r, m, d
  • g, o, u, l, f, b
  • ai, j, oa, ie, ee, or
  • z, w, ng, v, oo
  • y, x, ch, sh, th
  • qu, ou, oi, ue, er, ar

You will find the actions outlined for the different sounds on the sound sheet contained in your child’s homework folder.  These actions can then be used to revise the sounds in your child’s ‘Sound Book’. Please note that Sound Books will be sent home tomorrow.

As mentioned previously, the Jolly Phonics app is a great way to revise the sounds and stories that have been covered in school. The link to the Jolly Phonics songs is also included below to help you practise the songs and actions at home:

On another note, if your child still does not have an art apron, ring binder folder or ‘doodle pad’ (drawing book) in school could you please send one in.

As always, if you have any queries at any stage please don’t hesitate to ask! 🙂
