Over the next few weeks the children are invited to present a story to the class. They can do this in one of three ways:
- Choose a book from the school library to bring home and practice.
- Choose a book from home they can practice then bring to school on the day they are reading to the class.
- Write their own story they can practice and then read to the class.
The chosen books should be short stories; picture books or a short passage from a longer book as there will not be sufficient time to allocate more than 10 minutes to each child.
When your child is practicing remind them that they will be reading for an audience and encourage them to read with expression, changing their voices for characters, etc. The more practice they have the more comfortable they will be when it comes to reading the story to the class.
This is not obligatory and if anyone does not wish to do it they do not have to. I will let the children know nearer the time the day they will be reading. This is an opportunity for the children to share a story they love with everyone and help them grow in confidence when it comes to reading.
