P.E. in Fifth Class!

Hi everyone,

I just want to clarify a query that was brought to my attention this afternoon with regard to Physical Education in Fifth Class. P.E. forms part of the curriculum and is timetabled for one hour per week for primary school children. In Greenlanes, we are so lucky that every week we get to avail of P.E. lessons that exceed this time slot of one hour and sometimes can include a few different P.E. lessons a few days of the week. At the minute, we have Hurling with Ger on Tuesdays for 30 minutes, Tag Rugby with Ray on Tuesdays for 45 minutes and Cycling with Eoin on Thursdays for 1 hour. On top of this, the children are sometimes given extra P.E. on a Friday  in the case that their work is completed and we sometimes go outside for the last few minutes of the school day. P.E. lessons with me are usually completed on a Friday but with the activities I have listed above being completed at the moment, it would not be possible nor advised to complete extra P.E. on top of the 2 hours and 15 minutes the children are already getting. P.E. has not been and is not cancelled or postponed; it is simply a lesson covered by external P.E. teachers this term and we are availing of more than the allocated time for this subject on the curriculum. I am so glad that Fifth Class have enjoyed the Physical Education lessons over the last few weeks and we look forward to the upcoming Tag Rugby Blitz and the Cycling lessons to follow. If anyone has any further questions with regard to Physical Education, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be more than happy to talk to you.

Thank you,

Ms. Byrne.
