bookfair2

Celtic Travelling Books are holding a Book Fair in the School next week from Wednesday 11th to Friday 13th October.

The commission from the Fair allows us to buy books for the classroom and library so every book you buy helps us to get new books for the school.

All pupils were given a leaflet yesterday showing some of the most popular books but there are hundreds of books to choose from, which will be on display in the Atrium from Wednesday onwards.  You may also visit the book store at www.celtictravellingbooks.com

Children are invited to browse, choose and order their books during the week with the help of their class teachers, and parents are also invited to attend on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the following times:

Infant Parents 1pm and All Other Parents at 2pm

If any parents/guardians are available to help out with this book sale, please contact Kate Robbins at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Stay Safe

We are planning to teach Topic 1 from the personal safety education programme called Stay Safe to children in all classes over the next two weeks. The aim of the Stay Safe programme is to teach children personal safety skills so they can look after themselves in situations which could be upsetting or dangerous. It deals initially with common situations which most children will experience at some stage or other, e.g. getting lost or being bullied. The programme also teaches children the safety skills necessary to protect themselves from physical or sexual abuse, and emphasises the importance of telling a trusted adult about any problems they have. We will teach the topics as following:

  • October: Feeling Safe and Unsafe
  • January: Friendship and Bullying
  • February: Touches
  • March: Secrets and Telling
  • May: Strangers

The Stay Safe programme is part of the Social, Personal and Health Education curriculum which all primary schools are required to implement. Co-operation between parents and teachers is essential to the success of this programme. It is important that parents are aware of the content of the Stay Safe lessons and are able to discuss the lessons with their children. Your child will bring home the worksheets which will inform you on the topics being covered in class and how you can reinforce the messages at home.

You can familiarise yourself with the content of the Stay Safe lessons at www.staysafe.ie/teachers/resources.htm.

Thank you for your co-operation,

Cathy Atkin
